WHAT TO DO IN BRUGGE
Anyone visiting Bruges for the first time immediately understands why so many people fall in love with the city. The charm lies not only in the well-known highlights, but above all in the atmosphere: the silence of the canals in the morning, the sounds of the carillon above the Market Square, and the small streets where something beautiful awaits around every corner. From Istoire, you can easily walk to the city's most beautiful spots. These are our favorite tips for those who truly want to experience Bruges — at a relaxed pace and with an eye for the details that make a city trip special.

Start at the Market and the Belfry
A visit to Bruges begins almost automatically at the Market Square. This lively square has formed the heart of the city for centuries and is dominated by the Belfry, the iconic symbol of Bruges. The Belfry and the Market Square rightly belong among the city's absolute classics.
Those who climb the 366 steps are rewarded with a magnificent view over the red roofs, towers, and canals of Bruges. Especially early in the morning, this is one of the most beautiful moments to see the city from above.
Our tip: come early in the day, when the square is still quiet and the light falls softly over the facades.
Walk along the Rozenhoedkaai
If there is one place that sums up the soul of Bruges, it is the Rozenhoedkaai. This is without a doubt the most photogenic view of the city, with the canals, historic facades, and the Belfry in the background. The romance of this place works at any time of day.
Yet it is not just a place for photos. Take a moment here to simply stand still and watch how the water sets the rhythm of the city.
Our personal recommendation: go back here again at sunset, when the facades light up warmly.
Discover Bruges from the water
Seeing Bruges from the water remains one of the most beautiful experiences during your stay. The boat tours take you past spots you hardly see on foot: hidden courtyards, old bridges, and beautiful facades reflected in the water.
Beautiful routes through the historic center depart, especially from the moorings around the Rozenhoedkaai.
For couples, this is undoubtedly one of the most romantic activities in the city.
Visit the Minnewater and the Beguinage
When you want to get away from the hustle and bustle for a while, walk towards the Minnewater and the Beguinage. This part of Bruges feels almost serene: old trees, swans on the water, and a tranquility you are less likely to find in the city center.
The Minnewater — also known as the “Lake of Love” — is one of the most romantic places in Bruges. Together with the Beguinage, it forms a beautiful contrast to the liveliness of the Market Square.
For us, this is a place where many guests spontaneously stay longer than planned.
Stroll aimlessly through the small streets
The most beautiful Bruges experiences are often unplanned.
Walk from the Dijver towards the quiet streets around Sint-Anna, the Godshuizen, or the less crowded canals. Here you discover the Bruges that many day tourists miss: quiet, authentic, and almost cinematic.
It is precisely those unexpected moments that make the city so special.
Turn your day into a full Bruges stay.
After a day full of impressions, it is wonderful to return to peace and quiet. From our B&B in Bruges, you can effortlessly walk to the Market Square, the Rozenhoedkaai, and the Minnewater, while staying in a stylish historic building away from the hustle and bustle.
This is how you get the most out of your city trip without wasting time.
Our personal tip
Should we give one tip?
Get up early and take a morning walk.
Bruges between 7 and 9 feels almost magical: empty streets, morning light on the facades, and the silence of the city before the day truly begins. Only at that moment do you see how truly special Bruges is.
